    Motorcycle Ramps

Loading and unloading a motorcycle can be intimidating and sometimes dangerous without the proper equipment and assistance. Today’s motorcycles, from off-road dirt bikes, to street cruisers are big investments, but sometimes can’t be ridden everywhere. When the time comes to transport motorcycles, proper motorcycle loading ramps can reduce both the risk, and time involved in loading up for a weekend adventure. However, before purchasing a motorcycle ramp, there are a few things you should consider.

What will you be loading? If you’re planning on just sticking with using your ramp for your motorcycle, then maybe a narrower ramp will suit your needs. Wider ramps, although sometimes more expensive, can also be used to load other vehicles you might have, like ATV’s, lawn equipment etc.

Also consider the weight of the motorcycle, or other vehicles, you may be loading with your ramp. Most of today’s dirt bikes are relatively light and only weight several hundred pounds. A narrower, aluminum folding ramp is usually the perfect combination for loading and unloading the lighter weight dirt bikes. On the other hand, most street bikes often weight considerably more than dirt bikes and require a heavier duty motorcycle ramp. A wider ramp may also be convenient for walking next to a heavier motorcycle while loading into a vehicle. Always be sure to read and understand the manufactures’ suggested weight recommendations for motorcycle ramps!

And of course, be sure to consider what you are loading your motorcycles into when purchasing a motorcycle ramp. A shorter ramp may be ideal for loading your motorcycle into a low level trailer, but create a steep and un-safe angle when trying to load into a truck bed.

As always, if you have any further questions when deciding which motorcycle ramp is suitable to your needs, we’re always more than willing to help!

    Motorcycle Ramp Purchasing Guidelines

    • Always take into consideration all the things you will be loading with your ramp. Will you be loading more than just motorcycles?
    • Consider the width of the motorcycle ramp as well. A narrow ramp will be ideal for lighter weight motorcycles, but a wider ramp can also be used to load utv’s, atv’ and other equipment
    • Be sure to choose the correct length motorcycle ramp for your application. Too short of a motorcycle ramp can create an un-safe loading angle

Although utilizing a ramp to load motorcycles considerably reduces the risk and time involved when loading, there are still some significant safety factors you need to be aware of.

The first, and often most obvious safety factor to consider is the posted weight limits by the manufacturer’s of the motorcycle ramps. These should NEVER be ignored! Using a ramp not suitable for the weight of a motorcycle being loaded can lead to ramp failure and not only cause damage to your motorcycle and vehicle or trailer, but also yourself and others around.

Another important safety factor to consider when using a motorcycle ramp is the angle at which the ramp is positioned. Generally, the shorter the motorcycle ramp, the more angle it will have when in place. Too steep of a loading angle can create un-necessary risk for tipping over, or bottoming out during loading.

Loading a motorcycle with a motorcycle ramp does often reduce the need for additional assistance, however you should never ride your motorcycle up a motorcycle ramp! With the help of a spotter, pushing your motorcycle up the ramp is the safest method for you, your assistant, and your motorcycle.

To ensure the maximum safety for everyone involved while loading a motorcycle, always make sure the ramp is planted safely on both the ground, and vehicle being loaded into. If either of these two contact points for the ramp is unstable or even slippery, the chances of the motorcycle ramp shifting or sliding while in use are greatly increased. After ensuring the ramp is securely positioned, always double check that your vehicle is also securely in park and the e-brake engaged.

With all of these safety tips combined, along with any other safety guidelines in place by the ramp’s manufacturer, loading your motorcycle should be safe, efficient, and easier than ever!

    Important Safety Guidelines
    • Always be aware, and follow, the recommended weight limits for motorcycle loading ramps
    • Make sure the motorcycle ramp is placed at a safe angle. Too steep of an angle can create unsafe conditions and make the loading process more difficult
    • Have a friend act as a spotter and assistant when loading a motorcycle. And always walk, not ride, your motorcycle up your motorcycle ramp
    • Ensure your motorcycle ramp is planted securely on solid ground, and safely secured to the vehicle you are loading into
